I love how many questions I’ve been getting on Budgets, Sales Projections, and Packaging over the last week via the comments on this blog!
You all have raised some really important issues and instead of just giving you cursory answers, I want to really dive in and get to the bottom of some of this stuff.
So I decided to host a free call this coming WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 20 @ 10 am PST where I answer everything personally. I will record the call so that if you cannot make it live, you can listen to the replay that same day. And if you can join me on the call, you will have the opportunity to ask questions live via email and twitter.
You can go ahead and submit more questions below. Anything that’s ‘stumping’ you in the budgeting, packaging, or overall distribution planning, departments please let me know. My goal is to give you some clarity so you can proceed with the making of your film keeping Distribution in mind the entire time. That way by the time you finish your film, you’ll have a plan – a revenue plan, a plan for profitability, for exposure, and for future projects.
WEDNESDAY is also the last day to save $50 off the tuition for my Group Coaching Program DISTRIBUTION IN REVERSE which kicks off in earnest on Jan. 26. If you want to work with me in a small group setting (from the comfort of your home), for 7 sessions as we dissect the entire Reverse Distribution process, then snag one of the remaining seats HERE before the Program sells out.
And for those who want the chance to win a scholarship to the Distribution In Reverse program, submit your Video Case study HERE for your chance at a free spot!
I’m looking forward to connecting with you all in *person* on Wednesday!
Call in details just announced! You can get the call-in details right HERE

I’m looking forward to learning about details on case studies of crowd sourcing projects.
Are there any case studies available online right now on people’s blogs?
Hi Stacey,
Looking forward to your call!
Are there any resources, other than reputable sales agents of course, that can help indies get info on actors/actresses re: popularity in territories?
Thanks!
Hi Stacey,
One question that’s been nagging me — that I can’t find an answer for.
If I use SAG actors in my film and then (against all odds) sell it in an all-rights deal to a distributor, who is responsible for SAG residuals? Me or the distributor who purchased the film?
thanks
sb
Do you think the latest edition of the Ulmer Scale is an accurate appraisal of actor bankability in foreign territories? What kind of number should a lead actor and lead actress have in a $4-$6 million film to be considered bankable.
We have a Christian film in post-production, about father-son relationships. (http://www.onegoodmanthemovieblog.com) The rough cut is complete. A private trailer is available (which Corkey loves). A major distributor has made an offer, and we are scheduling to meet with more mini-majors and specialty divisions (Lionsgate, Vivendi, Samuel Goldwyn, Warner Premiere, etc.) Question: What’s the best way to obtain Finishing Funds and P&A money in today’s market? Private equity, bank loans (against Letters of Intent), film funds, etc. We obviously want to retain more control over the release and get better ROI. Thank You!
(FYI – We’ve been following your advice over the last two years, Stacey. Incorporating your wisdom on our first film, COME WHAT MAY, and now on your second film. Your advice has always worked in our dealings with investors and distributors!)
We have distribution with a small company- what’s the best way to approach investors?
Sorry- forgot to add that we are in pre-production and our budget is $400K.
What is the best way to represent a distribution strategy of 4-walling? Lay out a normal strategy as WELL as the 4-wall as a plan B?
Hey Stacey, Considering a co-pro deal with Nat Geo on a true story that I discovered in the Southwest. I’m worried that they will take control of the rights to the story. Should I package it as an Independent film instead? (it’s a Native American hero we discovered out here)
What’s the best way to obtain Finishing Funds and P&A money in today’s market? Private equity, bank loans (against Letters of Intent), film funds, etc. Targeting an initial 200-300 screen release, then rolling revenues to expand to larger release if warranted.
1. I need a list of VOD companies and contact names that will buy our finished movie.
2. WHERE DO I FIND INVESTORS FOR A NEW PROJECT?
3. What B LIST ACTORS are popular with: a U.S. following and a foreign following, as far as getting distributors interested?
4. What A list actors would consider a low-budget movie for points?

George, it depends on the film – but many people get bridge loans from banks or private equity for finishing funds. Totally depends on many variables. I went into this in more detail in my latest Virtual Seminar “5 Ways To Finance Your Film in 2010″:
