Independent Film Blog was founded by Stacey Parks, author of The Insiders Guide To Film Distribution (Focal Press), a comprehensive guide for filmmakers and producers focused exclusively on the ins-and-outs of independent film distribution and how to navigate its harsh waters.
Stacey was a foreign sales for many years, and was dismayed by how little filmmakers knew about what awaited them in the distribution phase. During these years, she traveled extensively around the world selling hundreds of independent films and attending all the major film markets, while cultivating relationships with worldwide buyers. Any filmmaker who’s been out there knows it’s not all roses and since there was no one place filmmakers could get the info they needed to learn what they really needed to know about distribution, Stacey decided to write the book to tell filmmakers the actual truth about the distribution game. It’s often not pretty, but knowledge is a filmmaker’s first line of defense.
Subsequently, Stacey created Film Specific to explore the world of independent film distribution more in-depth, to speak with the actual distributors and sales agents on an ongoing basis about what they look for and why, to give filmmakers a chance to hear it straight from the horse’s mouth, and to give filmmakers an understanding of the world of independent film distribution from all sides and solutions to the obstacles they face via virtual training, blueprints, and tools they can use to further their careers.
Independent Film Blog aims to be a true resource for filmmakers at any stage of the game: for experienced filmmakers looking to find out more about what the buyers themselves are looking for, and to learn the latest trends in distribution, to filmmakers who are seeking distribution for the first time, to student filmmakers hungry to learn about the most important element of filmmaking they don’t teach you in film school.
